Netflix drops Basic plan in UK and Canada | Technology

Streaming content platform Netflix has started phasing out its cheapest ad-free plan and has forced users in some regions such as the UK or Canada to opt for new plans to keep their subscriptions active.

The company has been considering changes to its subscription plans for months. This started with the introduction of more affordable advertising plans.expiration of joint accounts and increase in other modality costs.

A few months ago, they announced that they would stop offering the ad-free Basic plan to new customers.starting with Canada and the UK. Shortly after, it was announced that it would eventually remove the format permanently from its offering, also starting with those countries, which would affect users who already paid for the plan.

Reddit users subscribe to the basic ad-free plan, which is the cheapest of the plans that don’t include ads. after receiving an email from the company indicating the end of this format.

Application interface changes

This change, which is also displayed on the app’s interface when starting it, has been announced via the brand’s own website, which states that “the basic package has been discontinued”.

In this communication, the streaming content platform warns users that they must choose another subscription plan to continue enjoying the content.. Otherwise, their profile activity will be suspended.

This means that current customers must choose an ad-supported plan, also called the standard plan with ads, standard package without them or Premium. It is currently unknown when this change will expand to other regions.
