O.Next.- The Palestinian Authority asks the UK to demand a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

MADRID, November 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohamad Shtayé, this Wednesday called on the British Government to request a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, taking advantage of his meeting in Ramallah with the British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa. Tariq Ahmad.

“Our priority is to stop aggression, provide assistance, care for the wounded and seek to initiate a political path to a comprehensive and just solution, a solution to the Palestinian problem based on international legitimacy and UN resolutions and its Initiatives. Arab Peace,” he said.

Shtayé has expressed his displeasure with the Israeli government’s efforts to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, without forgetting the aggression experienced by residents of the West Bank, where around 120 people have been killed since October 7 at the hands of Israel. “occupying armies and settlers”.

Britain is one of the countries that rejected calls for a ceasefire, arguing that it would only benefit Hamas, contrary to UN demands. However, like the United States, this country uses the term “humanitarian pause” to facilitate the provision of basic relief and assistance.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Riyad al Maliki, has also conveyed a request to Ahmed for Britain to mediate with Israel to stop its “brutal aggression” against the Gaza Strip.

The majority of the dead, already estimated by Gaza authorities at around 8,800 people, were children and women, recalled Al Maliki, who had stressed the need to seek a ceasefire to guarantee the influx of humanitarian aid, according to the report. WAFA news agency.

Al Maliki has called for paying special attention to the rhetoric coming from Israel, with the authorities apparently confirming that they are deliberately attacking civilians. Therefore, he recalled how Israeli President Isaac Herzog stated a few days ago that “there are no innocent civilians in Gaza.”

Instead, he has conveyed to the British Foreign Secretary the unrest that has arisen among Palestinians when the international community assumes that Israel condones bombing civilians. “Deliberately attacking innocent civilians is not self-defense, it is a crime,” he said.

The Foreign Minister also focused on Israel’s attacks on medical facilities in the Gaza Strip and called on the international community to intervene to “save what remains of the health system.”

“There is only killing and destruction,” complained Al Maliki, who called on the international community to end the “double standards” that allow Israel to evade accountability and ignore international law.

The Israeli army launched a military offensive that included days of ground operations in response to attacks carried out on October 7 by Hamas, which left nearly 1,400 people dead and more than 240 kidnapped, according to reports provided by Israeli authorities.

Gaza authorities, controlled by Hamas, on Wednesday raised the death toll from Israeli strikes to nearly 8,800 people, including more than 3,600 children. Likewise, more than 120 Palestinians were killed in Israeli troop operations and settler attacks in the West Bank.
