OPEC raises crude oil demand forecast to 2045

Bloomberg — Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) improve its demand forecast global oil supply until the middle of this century, even though the earth has started to abandon fossil fuels to prevent destructive climate change.

According to OPEC’s outlook, oil consumption will increase by 16% over the next twenty years, reaching 116 million barrels per day in 2045, about six million barrels more than previously estimated.

The land transportation, petrochemical and aviation industrial sectors are driving this increase. He An even greater increase will occur in Indiawhose consumption will double to almost 12 million barrels per day, and will be followed by China, with an increase of 4 million barrels per day (26%).

“There is a backlash against the view that the world should move away from fossil fuels, while other energy policies and goals are weakened by costs and a more detailed understanding of the magnitude of the energy challenge,” said OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al. Ghais.

Western leaders do reassess climate policy to inflation-weary voters, and Britain last month postponed a ban on the sale of petrol cars. Energy companies BP Plc (BP) and Shell Plc (SHEL) are back focus on your traditional business oil and gas after experimenting with a faster shift to renewable energy.

However, few consider the incessant use of hydrocarbons to be sustainable in the timeframe envisaged by OPEC.

The International Energy Agency estimates that demand for fossil fuels will stabilize by the end of the decade, as countries shift to renewable energy sources and electric vehicles. Investment in new oil projects must stop now if the government is to meet its net zero emissions targets and limit temperature rise to 1.5°C, he said.

This summer maybe humanity’s hottest so far, cause deadly heat wave in India, Greece, Hawaii and Japan, while increasingly powerful hurricanes are causing devastation in Asia and Africa. In the Atlantic, extremely warm waters caused mass coral bleaching and coral death in the Florida Keys.

OPEC also increased its projections for the amount of oil it will supply in the coming years, although most of its members, impacted by lack of investmentoperational disruption and political instability, they are currently unable to produce within their maximum production quota.

The report estimates that OPEC fluid supplies will increase by about 14% to 38.9 million barrels per day by the end of the decade and, ultimately, will reach 46.1 million per day in 2045.

However, the data does not break down separate figures for crude oil, which OPEC uses for its production quota system, and so does not provide a full indication of the organization’s influence on world markets.
