So far, the list of participants includes, besides the Spaniards, eighteen countries, five more than in 2022: Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Slovakia, USA, Estonia, Finland, France, Netherlands, Italy, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Greater Britain , Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, and Venezuela.
Member of the Sports Council in the Municipality of Torrevieja, Diana Box Alonso, stated that the International Bowling Open “Ciudad de Torrevieja”, which is very popular with both national and international players, will be held for eleven consecutive years at the Ozone Bowling Torrevieja, between 16 and 24 September . This year it was the most international tournament held in Spain and the official tournament on the annual European Bowling Tour. At the same time, in the same bowling hall, another tournament for players over 50 years old, the III Torrevieja Senior Open, was also being held.
The qualifying phase for the Open Ciudad de Torrevieja ends on Saturday 23 September. The format is six games played American style, alternating two courts. Participants can participate without restrictions to improve their results. Players receive an additional handicap of 8 pins per game.
The final phase between the top 32 will last all day on Sunday 24 September, culminating in a one-match confrontation phase between the eight highest scoring players. The player with the highest score at the end receives a check for 3,000 euros and a trophy. This year, the prize money amount is 13,800 euros. Among the most recent Open Ciudad de Torrevieja champions are three Finns, a Spaniard, a Norwegian, a Venezuelan and a Belgian.
In addition to the open categories, for players with an average of 190 or more, the tournament also has two lower categories: Category B (average between 189.99 and 170) and Category C (average below 170). In addition, the Torrevieja Senior Open will be played for the third year in a row, a separate but simultaneous tournament of six matches for players who have reached the age of 50. The final will be played on Friday 22 September in the morning.
During the tournament, there will always be free entry to the bowling alley. The last two qualifying days, Friday and Saturday, as well as all finals are streamed live on YouTube.
