Puebla adds 614 million dollars to Foreign Direct Investment

Puebla was arrested in the first six months of 2022 for $614 million for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)products of activities in the manufacturing, trade and service industries related to transportation.

According to federal Ministry of Economy (SE) data, the initial amount of FDI for the first half was 130.3 percent higher than the accumulation in the same period last year, which was 266.6 million dollars.

According to figures released by the federal government, the total amount of FDI is the result of a difference of $533.6 million for profit reinvestment, $138.6 million for new investments and outflows of $58.3 million for intercompany accounts.

The United States is the main investor with 215.4 million dollarsfollowed by German with 116.0 million dollars, Spanish with 52.7 million dollars, Canada with 31.6 million dollars, Sweden with 18.6 million dollars, great Britain with 11.1 million, Colombia with 7.6 million dollars, while 66.1 million dollars came from other countries.

If we look at the quarterly data, the January-March period was the most active, adding 375.4 million dollars, while during the April-June period 238.5 million dollars came in for the semester results of 614 million dollars, although the data may note an adjustment as reported by SE.

Although Puebla reflects an increase in foreign capital arrivals, it remains below the levels reported in 2019, that is, before the crisis due to the coronavirus health emergency, when in the first half of the year it exceeded $900 million.

Trade, manufacturing and transportation attract foreign investment

By sector, manufacturing represented 37.4 percent of the accumulated amount in the first half of the yearmainly due to activities in the base metal, chemical, plastic and rubber, food, beverage, and transportation equipment industries.

In turn, services related to transportation captured 24.6 percent, 14.3 percent related to financial and insurance services, while trade captured 7.2 percent.

In this way, Puebla together with Mexico City, Nuevo León, Jalisco, the states of Mexico, Baja California, Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, Querétaro and Veracruz, concentrated almost 80 percent of the initial Foreign Direct Investment figure of 27 thousand 511.6 million dollars who enter the country between January and June.
