King Elizabeth II was known for his long reigns, his great wealth, expensive dresses, and sophisticated accessories. However, very few know that the queen lived the ‘gamer’ aspect and almost had to own a 24-karat gold Nintendo. Without a doubt a worthy console for the UK’s most important woman.
That is fun. William burst out laughing. I’m so impressed to have such a cool grandma.
It was 2008 when the current Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, gave Prince William a Nintendo Wii for Christmas.
According to palace sources, Elizabeth II was fascinated and asked her granddaughter to let her play. Since then, the king has begun to like video games, something that is hard to imagine for a woman of her age.
“When he saw William playing games after lunch at Sandringham, he thought Nintendo looked really fun and begged to join,” a palace spokesperson told The Mirror.
He further added: “He played a simple ten pin bowling game and by all accounts it was natural. That is fun. William burst out laughing. I’m so impressed to have such a great grandmother.”

It should not be forgotten that despite the queen’s advanced age, she is a ruler who is always very up-to-date on technological matters. His appetite for video games grew to such an extent that it reached the ears of large corporations.
A special gift for the queen
After it was discovered that Queen Elizabeth II had a ‘gamer’ side, lTHQ product manager Danielle Robinson sees a huge marketing opportunity.
So the company developed a new video game for the royal family and families around the world to play.
“Big Family Games is the ultimate Wii game for everyone in the family, from grandparents to toddlers, to play together,” Robinson told CBS News.
We thought that Her Majesty the Queen didn’t want to play on any old consoles, so she ordered the extra special gold one.
However, the product manager thinks the queen must have a new console. For this reason it has a Wii designed in 24 karat gold.
“We thought Her Majesty The Queen would not want to play on any old consoles, so the special gold one was ordered,” he said.
The unusual item was delivered, but never reached the queen’s hands.
“For security reasons, the Correspondence Team cannot accept unsolicited gifts sent to the Queen,” Buckingham Palace announced on its website.

What happened to the console?
The console ended up on eBay. After the Royal Correspondence Team refused the prize, the company in 2017 sold the console to Donny Fillerup of Utrecht in the Netherlands.
But, as reported by ‘The Mirror’, after a while, the new owner thought of getting rid of the machine, so he put the item on eBay.
Nintendo is guaranteed for $300,000, more than a billion Colombian pesos.
