At this point, Prince William decided to go to Balmoral. At 12:45 pm Clarence House announced that King Charles (73) and Queen Camilla (75) had now traveled to Queen Elizabeth.

While William, Andrew, Edward and Sophie were on the plane on their way to Balmoral, the Queen died at 15:10.

Charles becomes king

Three hours and 20 minutes later, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen had died.

“The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” they wrote.

Sometime after seven o’clock, the queen’s eldest son made his statement.
