R.Unido.- A senior British government official called the complaints of migrants in downtown Manston “insolent”

MADRID, November 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The UK Home Office’s Secretary of State for Crime Chris Philp this Friday described the complaints of overcrowded migrants at the Manston detention centre, in the Kent area, of “courage” in the context of a case that has stirred controversy in the country.

Philp has defended the “legality of the center” despite the fact that other senior government officials have warned of irregularities given that there are currently around 4,000 migrants inside despite the fact that it was built to accommodate about 1,600 people.

“If people decide to enter the country illegally, it’s a bit impudent to complain about the conditions when you enter a country irregularly and unnecessarily,” he said before noting that those who “had already passed through other countries from Europe didn’t even have to come.” get over here. “The arrivals are incredible,” he said, according to information from the newspaper ‘The Independent’.

In this regard, he laments that the authorities spend millions of euros a year to “look after people who arrive illegally”, something he considers “very generous” on the British side. “Our asylum system is better than many European countries,” he said.

However, Philp has drawn criticism from members of the opposition, including Liberal Democrat spokesman Alistair Carmichael, who said his comments “expressed completely callous satisfaction about the Manston disaster”.

“It’s hard to believe that when we see reports of sexual abuse, disease and chronic overcrowding, their response is to accuse those who complain of acting bravely,” he said.

The Interior Minister, Suella Braverman, is under intense pressure in the face of criticism leveled at her for allegedly allowing the worsening of conditions in which migrants are held in detention centres.

In addition, he was accused of letting the situation get out of hand after a dozen Manston asylum seekers were left homeless. His words also sparked controversy after speaking of the migrants’ “invasion” and referring to “Albanian criminals.”
