MADRID, Jan. 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, on Monday defended his management of the case for Nadhim Zahawi, who was kicked out of the Government this weekend after causing fiscal irregularities, and indicated he made the decision “very quickly” after learning about it. he has failed to comply with the ministerial code.
“What I do is follow the process,” said Sunak, during the toilet stunt where he emphasized that “integrity is very important” to him, according to the BBC.
Questioned precisely because of the lack of integrity found in some senior conservative officials, Sunak distanced himself from the events that transpired before arriving in Downing Street. “I ordered an investigation. It has to be clear that these things are important to me,” he said.
An investigation commissioned by Sunak found that Zahawi, a minister with no portfolio and former chief financial officer, had exhibited behavior “below the high standard expected of a prime minister from those serving in his government.”
Zahawi, head of the Conservative Party, was forced to pay a fine to settle a dispute over non-payment of taxes related to voting company YouGov, which he founded in 2000 before making the jump to the House of Commons. The opposition demanded action from Sunak, considering the former minister’s situation untenable.
