Renewed alliance between Becal and Chevening for scholarships to study in the UK

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Government of Paraguay renews the alliance between the Becal program and the Chevening of the United Kingdom to offer study scholarships to Paraguayan professionals. In seven years, 65 people have benefited from the global scholarship program.

The Secretary of the Treasury, Oscar Llamosas, and the director of Becal, Andrea Picaso, received the British Secretary of State for the Americas and the Caribbean, David Rutley.

On that occasion, the cooperation agreement with Chevening, the government’s global scholarship program, was renewed. Paraguay has launched seven calls to study in the UK since 2016, with 65 beneficiaries.

United Kingdom is one of the main destinations for Paraguayan students to undertake postgraduate programs, so far 216 beneficiaries have been awarded, either through the Swakelola modality or through the Chevening-BECAL Agreement.

Of these, 158 are for master’s degrees in science, mathematics, engineering and technology (STEM), another 37 are for Education and 21 are doctoral degrees in Education and Science, Technology and Innovation (CTI).

Currently, 70 Paraguayan scholarship holders are studying their postgraduate programs at the best universities in the UK.

During the visit, the authorities also discussed other issues such as finance and climate change.
