Request Flight Verification Before Going to San Antonio Airport – NBC 7 San Antonio (60)

SAN ANTONIO – Cancellations continue to be a headache for thousands of families in the United States, and San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is no exception.

According to online app FlightAware, 73 flight cancellations have been registered this Tuesday and 67 from Southwest airlines.

Southwest Airlines had canceled as of Tuesday more than 2,500, or 63%, of scheduled flights this afternoon, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.

“San Antonio International Airport and our partner airlines remain in constant communication. While the issue is resolved, we encourage passengers to check their flight status before arriving at the airport. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our tourists. We are committed to providing a seamless experience for everyone using our airport,” said a SAT spokesperson.

The chaos resulting from the flight cancellations led to the US Department of Transportation announcing it would investigate the airline and what happened.

“USDOT is concerned with Southwest’s unacceptable levels of cancellations and delays and reports of a lack of prompt customer service. The department will review whether cancellations are controlled and whether Southwest is complying with its customer service plan,” the statement read. Department of Transportation on Twitter.

TOURIST RIGHTS IF YOUR FLIGHT IS CANCELED OR A DELAY IS NOTED

According to the US Department of Transportation, there is no federal law that requires airlines to provide passengers with any cash or other compensation when their flight is delayed. Each airline has its own policy on what it will do with delayed passengers.

So it is suggested that if your flight is delayed for a few hours or even days, you should ask the airline staff if they will pay for your meal or hotel room.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Transportation indicates that if your flight is cancelled, most airlines will rebook you free of charge on the next flight to your destination, as long as that flight has available seats.

If your flight is canceled and you decide to cancel your trip as a result, you are entitled to a refund for unused transportation, even for non-refundable tickets.

Due to the high volume of calls, the Southwest Airlines company advises its customers not to contact the service center through social networks and instead recommends canceling or rescheduling their flights through its website.

For their part, Senators Richard Blumenthal, of Connecticut, and Edward Markey, of Massachusetts, demanded via social networks that the airline send cash to travelers to compensate for the inconvenience.
