Norwegian agtech company Saga Robotics has raised £8.5m (€9.8m) to accelerate its growth in the UK’s strawberry sector. The move will also accelerate international growth, expanding the current list of the United States, Italy and Norway.
Since 2014, the company has been working on the Thorvald autonomous farming robot, which enables smarter farming by performing multiple IPM operations simultaneously. Robots help strawberry farmers perform high-frequency and time-consuming work, offering higher yields, lower CO₂ emissions, and more sustainable production of strawberries and food.
Through a personal assignment, the new shareholder, Norwegian industrial investment firm Aker, has invested £4.3 million (€4.96 million) in exchange for a 13.5% stake in the company. Aker joins existing shareholders, Nysnø Climate Investment, Rabo Food and Ag Innovation Fund and Hatteland, who invested a total of £3.4 million (€3.9 million), and jointly currently own 31.2% by Saga. Robotics. Another shareholder is the Cibus Enterprise Fund based in London.
