Santander named Ángel Rivera president of European payments platform Getnet

Getnet, the Santander company dedicated to processing credit or debit card payments in shops, will have a new president in Europe. The bank renews the board of subsidiaries and appointed Ángel Rivera, the number two man in Spain after Antono Simôes, as presidentreplaces María del Mar Ruiz de Andújar who holds this position to date.

ngel Rivera, who is general director of commercial banking in Santander Spain, took over Getnet Europe at an important time, because, began its expansion in Poland and England after shooting in our country and Portugal.

The goal of the bank chaired by Ana Botín is the Getnet reach thirty countries in Europe and to accelerate expansion, has decided to exclude the parent company from the São Paulo and New York stock markets, even though it has been listed for several months. The reason why he launched a takeover bid last May on a 10% stake he does not control.

Getnet was born in Latin America, in fact, it completely belongs to Santander Brasil. But in 2021 the bank decided to integrate it into PagoNxt (the group’s business area which includes all payment services) to continue expanding into other countries.

Apart from Brazil itself, he is active in Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, where it is the third payment company based on the number of customers and billing. Expansion in Europe began last year and accelerated after completing the integration of Wirecard’s technology assets, which allowed it to make improvements in e-commerce and with large international stores.

After settling in Spain and starting activities in Portugal, the bank is now focusing on Poland and England, landing which will be led by a new president. In its first year of life, Getnet Europe already profited 6.5 million.

Santander is also moving tokens in PagoNxt Solutions

Santander has also made changes in the presidency of PagoNxt Solution, PagoNxt’s subsidiary in charge of providing technology solutions for the entire payment business. Until now the number one, Javier Castrillo Penadés, who is also deputy director of digital banking at Santander Mexico, resigned from his position and dismissed him from his position, José Manuel Mateu de Ros.

The new president of PagoNxt Solutions joins parent, PagoNxt, in 2020. Since then, Mateu de Ros has been responsible for the internal coordination, transformation and marketing activities of the company, reporting to the CEO.

PagoNxt is a strong core of Santander’s payment strategy and operates under seven independent businesses grouped into three business units, Merchant Solutions for businesses, Trade Solutions for companies and SMEs, and Consumer Solutions for individuals.

Fintech, in turn, consists of Getnet, OneTrade, The Payments Hub, Ebury, Mercury TFS, Superdigital, and other companies that have been acquired in recent months.

Despite being part of Santander, PagoNxt is an autonomous company who work as fintech to provide digital payment solutions quickly. It currently has more than 4,000 employees spread across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East and Asia, but the technology headquarters is in Madrid.
