The American Express 2023 Global Travel Trends Report is based on data obtained through an online survey conducted by Morning Consult between February 3-11, 2023 with a sample of 1,000 travelers from Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, and 2,000 travelers from the United States.

American Express Travel published the Report “Global Trends 2023”which highlights four global trends that will inspire you to travel this year.

“Vacations are precious, and travelers prioritize itineraries that are personalized to their interests, from planning an entire getaway with one dinner reservation to getting the perfect TikTok video,” said Audrey Hendley, President of Travel, American Express.

The first is set-jetting: Movies, TV shows, and social media motivate people to travel to places they see on screen, such as Italy, Paris, Yellowstone, and London.

Pop culture and social media influence the rise of set-jetting, especially among young people.

75% of those surveyed agreed that social networks have become an inspiration for traveling to certain destinations.

70% of Gen Z and Millennial respondents agree that they are inspired to visit a destination after seeing it on TV shows, news or movies.

46% of Gen Z and Millennial respondents said they were inspired by Instagram to travel to a destination.

Tasty destinations: From the best restaurants to local favorites to cooking classes, travelers choose their next destination based on what they’re going to eat.

81% of those surveyed agreed that trying out local gastronomy is the part of their trip that they are most passionate about. 66% of Gen Z and Millennial respondents agreed that they get most of their on-the-go food inspiration from social media.

Nearly half (47%) of Gen Z and Millennial respondents agree that they have planned their entire trip to visit a particular restaurant.

Well-being wave: Restorative vacations multiply as travelers prioritize personal care and physical and mental health.

Off-road trip: Travelers want to discover hidden gems and support local communities.

85% of those surveyed want to visit a place where they can really experience the local culture.

Using data from surveys of travelers from the United States, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India, and the United Kingdom, the report reveals that more than half (52%) of those surveyed said they plan to take more trips compared to last year. and 50% of respondents plan to spend more on travel in 2023 than in 2022.

84% of Gen Z and Millennial respondents prefer a dream vacation over buying a luxury item, with 79% agreeing that travel is a top budget priority.
