Despite this, only nine managed to establish themselves among the top 500 and none made it into the top 100 of the ranking.
In the case of our country, this year they are the best Universities of Barcelona and Granada. Both of them managed to place themselves in the ranks of the 201st and 300th campuses with the best grades in the world. Although the two are on the same track, the ranking puts Barcelona ahead of Granada, which increased by two places compared to last year. In the case of the Catalan players, the results were worse this time around. And a year ago Shanghai put the University of Barcelona between the top 151 and top 200 Around the world.
Apart from these two, there is also a ranking of the world’s 500 best universities Autonomous University of Barcelona, Autonomous University of Madrid, Complutense University Madrid, Pompeu Fabra University Barcelona, University of Valencia, Polytechnic University of Valencia and University of the Basque Country. In this respect, the Autonomous University of Barcelona seems to be on a par with the Autonomous University of Madrid, which this year also lost several other positions.
And the thing that characterizes the Shanghai 2023 ranking is that there have been changes compared to previous years. In addition to universities that have experienced a decrease in ranking compared to other editions, there are two missing from the list. This is the case for Miguel Hernández de Elche (Alicante) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who are on the list in 2022.

The ‘top ten’ caps it off: Oxford, Columbia, California Institute of Technology, and the University of Chicago.
Every year, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), better known as the Shanghai ranking, publishes a ranking of the best universities in the world.
