Sunak insisted that “racism must be confronted” after the scandal in the British Royal House

MADRID, 2 Dec (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has emphasized Thursday that any presence of racism “must be confronted”, in reaction to the Buckingham Palace scandal in which an assistant resigned after starring in a racist episode.

Sunak, who declined to comment directly on the incident, claimed he had experienced racism, although he believed progress was being made on the matter.

“Our country has made tremendous progress in the fight against racism. But the task is never finished. That’s why every time we see it, we have to face it,” he said in a statement to the media.

“The right thing to do is we continue to learn and move towards a better future,” the British Prime Minister added.

The person responsible for the scandal, Lady Susan Hussey, starred in an incident on Wednesday during a meeting with the founder of a charity organization she repeatedly questioned the origins of.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement calling the comments “unacceptable and deeply regrettable.” Although at first the person responsible for this racist incident was unknown, the British press later confirmed that it was Lady Susan Hussey, the late Elizabeth II’s former personal assistant and Prince William’s godmother.

“Racism has no place in our society,” Guillermo said through a spokesman. “The comments are unacceptable and it is true that this person has stepped aside immediately,” the statement continued.
