Sunak refuses to apologize for the possible damage done to the British economy under Truss

MADRID, November 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has refused this Tuesday to apologize for the possible damage the Government of his predecessor, Liz Truss, has caused to the UK economy and has emphasized that the consequences have been reversed.

As such, he explained that the impact of Truss’ so-called ‘mini-budget’ to address the growing economic crisis caused by rising food and gas prices “has been reduced”.

In this case, it has been confirmed that the damage “has been properly repaired”, according to information from the BBC television network. “I think it’s very important for people to understand what has happened since I became prime minister. Over the last few weeks we have looked at a lot of economic factors (…) and we have achieved improvement,” he said.

“Now we face the same challenges as most countries,” he said in reference to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the current geopolitical context.

His argument is similar to that given by former Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng, who has claimed that he even warned Truss that his harsh criticism of the economic and fiscal plan, which he had to withdraw, would eventually drive him from Downing Street.
