MADRID, November 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that British foreign policy must establish itself firmly on the world stage to meet challenges.
“Our enemies and competitors plan for the long term. Faced with this challenge, short term or illusion will not be enough,” warned the UK head of government, according to a speech that he will debate before business leaders and diplomats in London. Monday in his first speech on foreign policy since he came to power.
“So we will be taking an evolutionary leap in our approach. This means becoming stronger in defending our values and the openness on which our prosperity rests,” Sunak explained ahead of the speech, as reported by ‘The Guardian’ newspaper.’
In this sense, the ‘prime minister’ has indicated that he will base his years as head of the Treasury on maintaining that the country’s strengths abroad must be supported by the strong economy of London.
Because of this, Sunak chose “solid pragmatism” over a policy of “grand rhetoric”. “It means building a stronger economy at home, because that is the foundation of our strength abroad. And that means facing our competitors, not with great rhetoric but with solid pragmatism,” said the President.
With this long-term pragmatic policy, his party seeks to compete with Russia and China, while seeking to deepen partnerships with other parts of the world such as the Indo-Pacific region.
