On the men’s side, Sunnmørings Noah Myklebust, Sondre Mork, Lars Ulstein, Eirik Buset, Jonas Brænde, Elias Krumsvik, Torstein Rotevatn and Tobias Engås were represented.
Traditionally, Møre and Romsdal have performed very well in the men’s team during these Norwegian championships.
The boys have been in the finals for the last five years. Twice ended in victory.
A total of eight regions fielded teams this weekend.
– This year there are two teams that are expected to be better than us. “One (East) knocked us out in the semifinals, and that’s fair enough,” coach Ole Martin Kleivenes said of the boys’ performance.
In the bronze final, neighbors Sogn og Fjordane were beaten 2-0 in sets (25-23, 25-22).
– The goal was to reach the semifinals, and we did it. So it was a good thing to beat the neighboring region in the bronze final, said Kleivenes.

Good luck to the girls
While the men have been a medal guarantee in recent years, the women have struggled more.
But this year, the women’s team – represented this time only by Sunnmørings – showed great progress.
The women’s team finished second in the group stage, while they narrowly lost 1-2 to Region Nord in the quarterfinals (22-25, 27-25, 10-15). Sunnmørs girls won the battle for 5th place 2-0 (25-14, 25-9) against the Trøndelag region.
– On the women’s side, we saw that we really took advantage of the advantages that the other teams had. It’s great to see. Overall, margins are very tight, said Ole Martin Kleivenes.

Confirmation of the job
Kleivenes has a good feeling after the weekend.
He believes the results show that work is being done well in the age-specific classes at Møre and Romsdal.
– We are not one of the largest regions in terms of the number of players, but we once again showed that we have a good tradition of developing players, he said.
He wants to see more people – especially boys – taking up the sport.
– Clubs do a good job of developing players and you often see that there are many good coaches at clubs, but we would like to think that more active players could benefit from it, says Ole Martin Kleivenes.
