– Today we took a new step to strengthen cooperation in the defense sector, said Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson at one of the Press conference with Johnson on Wednesday.

If one country is attacked, the other will stand up – including militarily, the Prime Minister said of a mutual security and defense agreement.

– If Sweden is attacked, Great Britain will accept what Sweden asks for. The opposite is also true, said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The meeting between the two prime ministers took place at the Harpsund manor outside Stockholm, where the two discussed the security policy situation in Europe.

Like Finland, Sweden is considering membership in NATO as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

– Does this agreement make us safer? Yes, is the answer to that. This is important regardless of the decisions we make, Andersson said, referring to the NATO issue.

Russia has warned of an increased military presence in the area around Finland and Sweden if both become NATO members. The Swedish Prime Minister reminded this during a press conference.

Finnish Agreement

The British government announced a similar agreement with Finland, where Johnson is traveling after his visit to Sweden.
