That year it all happened in England

PODCAST: In this year’s final episode of Pod Britannia, we summed up 2022 and talked about what made the biggest impression in such a landmark year.

Politically, this year has been very chaotic. There are quite a few revolving doors at 10 Downing Street, Prime Ministers coming and going. Britain will have to deal with three of them this year – Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak. Truss had to step down after just a few weeks in the prime minister’s chair.

In September, an era came to an end when Queen Elizabeth died after 70 years on the throne.

In Northern Ireland, there were historic elections in May, in which the pro-Irish nationalist party, Sinn Féin, became the largest for the first time. There is still no Northern Ireland government.

In Scotland, the desire for a new referendum on independence is back on the agenda, and has also been a topic for the UK Supreme Court.

We talk about all of this on the podcast, and also look forward to 2023. Will the Conservative Party ever manage to pick itself up after a dismal year? Labor is now far ahead in all opinion polls. What are the chances of Northern Ireland getting a new government? And what happened in Scotland?
