Strongman competition fans in England finally get to see Tom Stoltman defend the title of World’s Strongest Man. The 28-year-old racked up 53.5 points in the final to claim the title in Sacramento, California. And if you are a fan of these strongmen, you will be familiar with the colossal calorie-dense diets that strong people follow to fuel their training and performance in competitions, and Stoltman is no exception.
“The week before competing for World’s Strongest Man was the most intense of my life. About 13,000 calories…”. (How to count and calculate food calories).
The 13,000 calorie diet of the world’s strongest man
Breakfast: pancakes with strawberries, bananas, honey and “all followed by a sandwich”.
Have lunch: double burger with fries, “and I eat it again three times a day.”
Dinner: Pasta because it’s “very starchy and will sit in your stomach and be digested slowly.”
Dessert: Chocolate cake.
While it sounds good to be able to eat whatever you want, and in such large quantities, “I don’t enjoy it,” says Stoltman. “By the end of the week I had put on about 20 pounds and could barely walk. I know that sounds like a lot of food but when you eat it you are probably burning 6-7000+ calories a day during the event. I eat like this for fuel. , not for quality. We eat to use it as effectively as possible to lift.”
