The World Jurist Association awarded the World Peace and Freedom Award to Andrew Young, a civil rights icon in the US.

This is the highest award given by the WJA and recognizes Young’s work “social, political and economic progress of the oppressed throughout the world”. Andrew Young, Martin Luther King Jr.’s closest associate, was the first African-American US ambassador to the United Nations, which also pushed for US Civil Rights and Voting Rights legislation.

At the event, the WJA also awarded the 2023 Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medal of Honor to prominent women jurists, including Navi Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (2008-2014), and Lady Brenda Hale, the first woman president of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom .

The event will take place on July 20 and 21 and will bring together more than 350 high-level lawyers, politicians and businessmen.
