The European Commission and the UK are working to regulate artificial intelligence to reflect democratic values

The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, has asked at the first session of the G7 summit held recently in Hiroshima (Japan) that the agreed boundaries for the development of artificial intelligence.

In this sense, it has been recognized that “the potential benefits artificial intelligence for citizens and the economy is great”, however, he pointed out that “we have to do it agree on boundaries to develop AI in the European Union that mirrors us democratic values“.

This request has been followed up by the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Rishi Sunak, who has made a request that “obstacles” were placed for development of this technology. While acknowledging the potential of this technology, the UK president has assured that it must be used “safely and with the protection it should“.

Because of this, Sunak has pointed out that “we have adopted a deliberate iterative approach as technology advances rapidly and we want to ensure that our regulations can evolve too”, so they are confident of collaborating with international allies to coordinating efforts to ensure adequate regulation for AI companies.
