The G7 condemned Pyongyang’s latest launch of ballistic missile technology

Brussels, Aug. 24 (EFE).- G7 foreign ministers condemned “in the strongest terms” that North Korea had used ballistic missile technology in Thursday’s launches, a “clear and flagrant violation” of “various” UN Security Council resolutions. .

Pyongyang added a second failed attempt to put its first spy satellite into orbit at a time marked by rising military tensions in the region, a launch that activated Japan’s J-Alert missile warning system, though the alert was withdrawn minutes later. .

The foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the EU’s top foreign policy representative, Josep Borrell, condemned in a statement that North Korea “continues to intensify its actions.” an act of escalation through a record number of ballistic missile launches which only underscores its determination to advance and diversify its illegal nuclear and ballistic capabilities.”

Accordingly, they demand that the North Korean regime “abandon its nuclear weapons and existing nuclear program”, in addition to its other weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs, in a “complete, verifiable and irreversible” manner.

“North Korea’s reckless actions must elicit a swift, united and strong international response, especially from the UN Security Council,” the G7 foreign ministers demanded.

Pyongyang’s “repeated” violations, they added, and the UN’s “inaction” due to “obstacles” by “some of its members” were “a cause of significant concern.”

In this regard, they urged UN Security Council members to “fulfill their commitments” and urged the North Korean regime to follow the diplomatic path and “accept the repeated offers of dialogue made by Japan, the United States, and South Korea without preconditions”.

Similarly, the G7 regrets that North Korea uses its “limited resources” to finance the spread of its weapons of mass destruction and nuclear programs, while “aggravating the suffering of the people” and increasing violations and violations of human rights.

The G7 communiqué concluded by reaffirming its commitment to work with all “relevant actors” towards the goal of achieving peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and upholding a rules-based international order. EFE
