Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers, known by the English acronym STEM, are professions that are prioritized by the Government for awarding scholarships in order to pursue university programs at domestic and foreign universities.
This information was conveyed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Franklin García Fermín, who in a conversation with elCaribe stated that this was intended so that the beneficiaries could contribute to the strategic development of the Dominican Republic.
The official stated that this year they will continue to provide academic assistance to deserving students so that they too can be part of social mobility.
In this regard, he said that from January 31 to February 21 there will be a calling period for the international scholarship program, which has an investment of around 1,040 million pesos to impact nearly two thousand young people.
He explained that by this they seek to send students to universities in countries with which they have agreements such as Spain, the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Russia, to train high-level professionals in the postgraduate field.
Similarly, he stated that on March 1 they will start accepting applications for the national scholarship programme, which has a budget of 850 million pesos, and with that they are providing outstanding students with the opportunity to pursue bachelor and master degrees at local higher education academies. .
“So far we have awarded more than 20,000 scholarships, of which we will give this year there will be more than 30,000 with the same budget,” he said.
He emphasized that to take part in the two programs you only need to have an index that exceeds 80 points.
