The Ministry of Defense and Education distributed maps of the Malvinas Islands in schools across the country

Both topographic maps and satellite imagery are made at a scale of 1:500.00 with a print size of 85 cm x 50 cm. Topographic maps provide geospatial updates with reference to place names, buildings, and coastlines. The topography was also replaced by the latest version of the Digital Elevation Model (MDE-Ar) from the National Geographic Institute (IGN), including contour lines, shadow models and hydrographic networks.

For its part, the image letter was created from information captured on June 21, 2020 by the Argentinian satellite SAOCOM 1A, courtesy of CONAE, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. This fact is a milestone in our assertion of scientific-technological sovereignty. IGN’s standardized geographic names are placed on images as part of its mission.

Additional information contained in both products includes references to, inter alia, the discovery of the Islands in 1520, the first raising of the Argentine flag in 1820, the illegal occupation by England in 1833, the conflict in the South Atlantic in 1982 as well as national claims to the full exercise of sovereignty and the trajectory of his international diplomacy during democratic rule. The Implementation Plan for the Humanitarian Project (PPH) was also reflected, signed by Argentina, Great Britain and the International Committee of the Red Cross, which made it possible to identify the remains of more than a hundred Argentine soldiers buried in Darwin Cemetery.

This initiative forms part of the “Malvinas Agenda – 40 years”, which aims to make the Malvinas Problem visible in the country and in the world, through the articulation of the Ministry of Defence; Foreign Relations, International Trade and Worship; and Science, Technology, and Innovation, product bundles have been achieved that enable a better understanding of the important parts of our territory taken over by foreign powers, complementing geospatial and cartographic information with their history and environmental characteristics.
