An exhibition about the history of Gucci is coming to London. Following the success of its debut in Shanghai in April, Gucci Cosmos moved to the UK. From October 11 to December 31immersive installations showcase and celebrate the house’s emblem (from Bamboo bags to Jackie and Horsebit), as well as other avant-garde designs throughout its 102 year history.
He British artist That’s Devlin. – who designed the original Shanghai exhibition – have created an exhibition space that pays homage to London, through a series of imaginative sets, sculptures and multimedia artwork. It can be visited at 180 Studios in London.
After passing through London, the exhibition will move to Paris and then to Kyoto, and each exhibition will have a story dedicated to the culture of the host city and country. The British capital plays a very special role in Gucci’s rich historybecause this is where the founder of the house, Gucci Gucciwas first inspired to create his artisanal suitcase workshop, while working as a doorman at Savoy Hotel in the late 1890s.
As a tribute, London version The exhibition opens with a close recreation of the Savoy lobby, just like back then, with the black and white marble floor being its symbol. Visitors will then enter a large-scale reproduction of the famous red Savoy lift – London’s first electric lift, affectionately nicknamed Space Up—, before exiting the other side to see the rest of the exhibit. Under It will also have a Gucci cafeteria decorated with wallpaper antiquewhich will serve red drinks and appetizers.
For the Cosmos exhibition, Italian curator Maria Luisa Frisa has selected never-before-seen items from the Gucci archives. Takes viewers through the Italian fashion house through the decades, showing how the house evolved over the past century and how its visionary design spirit reflects and defines the times.
Fashion lovers can expect an impressive collection, also featuring many iconic bags seen archives of creative directors past and present, such as Tom Ford, Frida Giannini, Alessandro Michele and Sabato De Sarno.
