The new New Balance Made in UK 991v2 builds on this iconic heritage runner at the same time they pay tribute to the first city to adopt them en masse. Now, the legendary silhouette is updated with slight adjustments and high-quality materials.

A love story between sneakers and an entire city

If you’re in this world, you’ve definitely heard of it Every city has its own favorite shoes. Just like NY has white Air Force 1s, or Berlin has Birkenstocks… Milan has its own. This love story is now more than 20 years old. In 2001, New Balance presented it model 991stylish sneakers runner which is quickly becoming a favorite among creative circles in the north of the city. Attracted by the craftsmanship of their sneakers and attention to design detail, Milanese began to adopt them en masse. In fact, and this is nothing extraordinary, they look combined with the most spectacular suits…. of course thanks to its elegant and timeless design even though it is a running shoe. And like everything born in Milan, 991 fashion spread throughout Italy (and the world).

This is where things get (even more) interesting. More than 20 years after this hitown New Balance Made in England. This is an American brand line founded in England focuses on reinterpreting its most iconic models. Here, a team of craftsmen signs some of the brand’s most spectacular creations thanks to use superior materials and high aesthetics. But to date, the line has only reissued models that were already in the standard catalog… they have never signed a truly new model.

The new New Balance Made in UK 991v2 is it the first model the line made in-house. When we asked Sam Pearce, creative director of Made in UK, about the idea behind the new model, he pointed out that the concept “evolution, not revolution” That was the first thing that came up. Maintaining consistency with previous versions of the 991 was paramount, as was any new generation of an established car range. Therefore, the new 991v2 is not too far from what Milanese fell in love with in the 2000s, but they enough changes to make it a favorite of the 2020s.

This new model is made in England saving all the iconic elements of the stylish shoe runner dosmilera. But it updates it for our times with revised construction, updated materials and a much more elevated feel. The most characteristic elements of the new model are the addition of FuelCell bearings from a technological perspective.
