Despite being the most compact SUV ever launched by the brand, the new Volvo EX30 has an edge when it comes to safety, thanks to our 96 years of leadership and innovation in this area. We are safety leaders, and always will be, and we’re not about to lower our own safety standards on the EX30, which looks after you and others in busy urban environments.

For example, on busy city streets, car doors that accidentally open into the path of cyclists are responsible for a large number of bicycle accidents. So-called door accidents account for a fifth of all reported cycling accidents in some cities, and according to Cycling UK an average of 60 people are killed or seriously injured by car doors each year in the UK alone.

To help reduce such incidents, our next Volvo EX30 is equipped with a door open warning, which can alert you via visual and audible signals whenever you are about to open the door to passing cyclists or other traffic users.

Open door alerts are one of several features of our technology safe room on the Volvo EX30, illustrating how we apply our high safety standards to our new all-electric SUV. It is designed to be city safe with technology specifically aimed at protecting people in busy urban environments.

Sophisticated protective security

As a Volvo Cars SUV, the new EX30 is as safe as any Volvo car. Founded on our unique knowledge of safety and real-world accident investigation, the EX30 is designed to help protect your driver and passengers in the event of an accident. This is done through restraint technologies as well as top-level structural designs that meet our ambitious internal safety requirements, designed to prepare our cars for a variety of real-world scenarios.

Protecting the people in the car in the event of an accident is always our priority. The structural design of the EX30 reflects our commitment through the reinforcement of the roll cage, A, B and C pillars and roof.

Since this is an electric car, we naturally put a lot of focus on the integrity of the battery. The chassis and roll cage are constructed from various forms of high-strength steel that efficiently offset the impact of a potential crash.

The EX30 also incorporates a side airbag inside the driver’s seat designed to help reduce head and chest injuries in the event of a side impact. And it even goes beyond our basic passive security standards. The Volvo EX30 also offers a series of advanced new active safety features that help protect people inside and outside the car.

A car that supports you when you need it

Inside the EX30, the new Advanced Driver Alert System comes standard and watches you when you’re not at your best. In addition to practical steering wheel sensing, the car also has special sensors working with powerful algorithms located behind the steering wheel, which detect eye and facial movements about 13 times per second. This way, the EX30 can try to understand if you’re distracted, sleepy, or inattentive, even if you don’t notice it.

Our new automatic brake feature is designed to help you avoid accidents at city intersections. If another car suddenly cuts into your lane, the auto brake intervention feature is designed to stop the car and help reduce or avoid a collision.

In short, like other Volvo cars, the new EX30 is equipped with a powerful suite of active safety and driver assistance systems.
