Visitors to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will see the British debut of the ET5 from NIO, pioneers of smart electric vehicles. The compact Fastback will be on display at Goodwood’s Electric Avenue from July 13-16. Already available in China and Europe, including Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, the ET5 combines performance with the luxury of space and the joy of driving a smart electric vehicle.
The ET5’s exterior design pays homage to the EP9 NIO hypercar that broke the hillclimb record at the Sussex venue in 2018. The ET5’s muscular thighs, 1685mm track width and rear fit are complemented by precise details such as a sculpted shark nose, flattened door handles. , and 33 integrated sensors for driver assistance and autonomous driving.
Inheriting the high-performance NIO DNA from the Goodwood EP9, the 360 kW ET5 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds thanks to a 150 kW asynchronous induction motor at the front and a 210 kW permanent magnet motor at the rear. It offers a maximum torque of 700 Nm. Like all NIO smart electric vehicles, the ET5 offers the ability to charge or swap its batteries, installing a new, fully charged battery at any of its power sharing stations in under five minutes. Currently, there are 1,561 power exchange stations worldwide, including 18 in Europe. There are more than 24 million battery replacements at an average of once every 1.6 seconds.
The interior of the ET5 is no less impressive. Visitors to Electric Avenue will have the opportunity to see NIO’s cutting-edge concept of the second lounge at ET5. Inspired by furniture, fashion and footwear trends, NIO designers have created a sophisticated space with a warm touch. Earth-inspired interior themes benefit from the use of more sustainable and recycled materials. The sustainable Clean+ fabric, made from recycled bottles, creates a comfortable and relaxing environment and enhances the acoustic performance of the cabin. Tech enthusiasts will be attracted by the 256-color ambient light function, Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround sound system, PanoCinema, immersive panoramic digital booth, with AR and VR technology, and AI virtual assistant in car NIO, NOMI.
While no official date has been released for UK sales of the ET5, NIO is already making plans to bring cars and user-focused services such as battery replacement and NIO Home to the country.
“We are delighted that ET5 is making its debut in the UK, here at Goodwood, a place that holds a special place in the history of our growing brand,” said Matt Galvin, Managing Director of NIO UK. “Electric Avenue is all about making EVs accessible to everyone, and while it’s not for sale here yet, we wanted to highlight how NIO battery replacement and other user-focused services make the switch to EVs an attractive option. This is the perfect place to show how different using EV is from NIO.”
Guests can contact NIO specialists available at Electric Avenue for more announcements from the smart EV brand.
