The Red Cross mobilized: – The situation is very serious
All relief corps from Bardu and further north have been put on alert after several avalanche incidents in Troms on Friday. This is what the Red Cross Relief Corps wrote in a press release.
– This situation is very serious. Rarely have we dispatched so many corps at once. They have been told they need to be vigilant, said national council leader Kjersti Løvik at the Red Cross.
The Corps currently on alert are Bardu, Målselv, Finnsnes, Berg, Tromsø, Birtavarre and the Lyngen Red Cross Relief Corps.
The last Corps participated in a search and rescue operation in Lyngen on Friday afternoon, and several other volunteers have moved on to other incidents.
The Red Cross said the massive mobilization of several aid corps at the same time was unusual.
– This situation is very serious. Rarely have we dispatched so many corps at once. They have been notified and are ready to move on at very short notice, said Indrevoll.
Bad weather made rescue efforts challenging.
– The situation was such that there were landslides on almost every headland. There are roads that are closed, and that poses a challenge for the crew to get there, said Indrevoll.
– It’s not a day for skiing. We seldom give this advice, but today there is no doubt that it is best to stay home in our northernmost county.
