Pablo Álvarez (aerospace engineer) is the third Spanish astronaut to fly into space after Michael López-Alegría (NASA) and Pedro Duque (ESA).
Alvarez was born in 1988 at Lionstudied aeronautical engineering at the University of León to fulfill his space dreams, and at the age of 22, the astronaut left his hometown for studied master’s degree in aerospace engineering at the Polytechnic University of Warsaw (Poland).
In 2011, he joined the company Airbus to work on the A350 and A380 model aviation projects, but his life changed in 2017, when he started to become mechanical architect on the exploration project ‘Rosalind Franklin from the ExoMars mission’ from the European Space Agency.
In particular, Álvarez worked at the company’s facility in Stevenage (United Kingdom) to be responsible for the integration of the project’s instruments, similarly, in Toulouse (France) he participated in the tests that had to be carried out on the vehicles before sending them to Mars.
After completing his work on exploration projects, since 2020 he has been working at Getafe as project manager for Airbus.
