The UK will host the first global summit on artificial intelligence

As the world grapples with the challenges and opportunities caused by rapid advances in artificial intelligence, the UK announced it will host the first global summit on AI safety later this year.

The issue will be discussed this Thursday at a meeting between Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the President of the United States, Joe Biden, in Washington, the British Government reported.

According to British authorities, the UK, recognized as one of the world leaders in the field of AI after the United States and China, is taking steps to ensure that this technology is developed and adopted in a safe and responsible manner.

The British government said in a statement that accelerating progress in AI provides significant benefits for society, from medical advances to improved quality of life, but also poses major challenges that require agile and coordinated leadership at the international level.

Sunak said the aim of the summit was to bring together key countries, leading technology companies and researchers to agree on security measures and assess the most important risks associated with artificial intelligence.

The summit will focus on the risks associated with AI, including border systems, and will seek to discuss and mitigate these risks through joint action between countries.

It is also expected to provide a platform for the development of joint approaches to mitigating risks related to artificial intelligence.

The British leader has discussed the issue with various businesspeople and world leaders in recent weeks, including members of the G7.

At the G7 Summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima, held last month, it was agreed to adopt a common approach to AI issues.

Additionally, meetings were held with CEOs of major AI labs such as OpenAI, DeepMind, and Anthropic, as well as leaders in the AI field.

In contrast, the UK stated its commitment to the safe and responsible development of AI and has allocated £100 million to support a working group of experts dedicated to this goal.

In addition, they allocated £900 million to expand computing capacity, including building a large-scale supercomputer in the country.

The importance of international cooperation in AI safety was also highlighted by experts in the field.

In this regard, leading companies in the field of artificial intelligence, such as Google DeepMind and Anthropic, expressed their support for the initiative.

Demis Hassabis, CEO and co-founder of Google DeepMind, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the safe and responsible development of AI.

The Global AI Security Summit was also supported by Palantir Technologies Inc., which announced it would establish a new European headquarters for AI development in the UK.
