MADRID, November 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United Nations Security Council this Wednesday gave the ‘green light’ to a resolution put forward by Malta demanding a humanitarian pause and a corridor in the Gaza Strip that would allow aid to enter the Palestinian enclave.
Notably, the resolution – which did not use the term ‘ceasefire’ or refer to Israel, despite mentioning Hamas by name – was approved with 12 votes in favor and three abstentions: Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The resolution calls for this pause to last for “several days” so that UN agencies and local organizations can provide “sufficient and unimpeded supplies of essential goods and services.”
Likewise, the resolution calls on the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Islamic Jihad to safely, unconditionally and immediately release all hostages, although they do not condemn the attacks carried out by the Islamist groups on October 7 or Israel’s counteroffensive against Gaza. . Peeling.
“The UN Security Council succeeded in adopting the Malta resolution regarding the Middle East conflict. Our commitment to peace remains steadfast,” Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela said on the X social network.
