They identify the passengers of a submarine that disappeared in the Atlantic on an expedition to the ‘Titanic’

MADRID, June 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Authorities, companies and families have identified on Tuesday five people traveling on the OceanGate Expeditions company submarine who disappeared Sunday while diving to approach the remains of the ‘Titanic’, which lies off the Atlantic coast of Canada.

The family confirmed in a statement the presence on board Pakistani tycoon Shahzada Dawood, a British national, and his son, Suleman. “We ask everyone to pray for their well-being while respecting the family’s privacy at this time,” read the note compiled by CNN.

There will also be British businessman Hamish Harding, company president of Action Aviation, and French adventurer Paul-Henry Nargeolet, who appeared before Harding in a recent Facebook post, according to the BBC. The list was reportedly finalized by OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush.

The sub disappeared about 700 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, with no clue of its current whereabouts. She lost contact with the surface less than two hours after starting the dive and experts estimate that oxygen on board could last up to 96 hours, in the best-case scenario being lifted in the last few hours.

Operations are conducted from the surface as well as from the air, with two C-130 helicopters from the United States.

The luxury liner ‘Titanic’ is located about 600 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at a depth of 3,800 meters below sea level. Its shipwreck occurred in 1912 and resulted in more than 1,500 deaths, although the remains of the wreck were not discovered until 1985.
