To promote the productive work of culture in our country, promoting respect for the environment, culture and traditions, Chamber of Commerce of Indigenous Peoples of Peru (CCPIP) in alliance with Sernanp, British Embassy in Lima, Grupo AJE, AIDER, GFC Task Force, Coalition for Sustainable Production and private launches for the first time “May 2023 Indigenous Entrepreneurship Month”, which will take place from the 2nd to the 4th November.
This initiative aims to promote space for the commercial exchange of tangible and intangible goods and services, originating from indigenous peoples and territories that work sustainably and in harmony with their ecosystem.
“During these three days we will witness the productive work of indigenous peoples in managing natural resources and being socially and environmentally responsible. In addition, we will articulate indigenous companies with possible commercial allies and we will facilitate the commercial exchange of indigenous goods and services with national and international buyers”, explained Shuar Velásquez, president of CCPIP.
At the launch event of “MEI 2023” the British ambassador in Lima, Gavin Cook; boss Sernanp, Jose Carlos Nieto Navarrete; Jorge López-Dóriga, AJE Group Director of Global Communications and Sustainability; Jaime Nalvarte, executive director of AIDER; representatives of indigenous peoples entrepreneurs and other event partners and allies.
In this regard, the Head of Service Sernanp, José Carlos Nieto Navarrete, argues that protected natural areas are for humans and are preserved thanks to them. “We want to support the development of the people, without losing them identity or culture. Meanwhile, the British Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cookpointed out that “indigenous peoples and their companies from biobusiness They are an important way to reduce deforestation in Peru and harness its forest wealth. They direct us to integrate and enhance efforts in bioeconomy, green finance and sustainable production. Meanwhile, Jorge López-Dóriga, Global Director of Communications and Sustainability of Grupo AJE, highlighted the importance of continuing to promote biobusiness and indigenous companies through this joint action, because it is the best way to promote the economic and environmental potential of our forests, without harming the ecosystem.
It should be noted that “Indigenous Entrepreneurship Month 2023″ It will include three main activities: an aguaje climber contest, a business conference, and an exhibition to display and sell products and services.
The aguaje climber contest will take place in the 20 de Enero community located in the Pacaya Samiria Nature Reserve (loreto). Through this activity, good practices for aguajales conservation will be disseminated, to harvest the fruit without having to cut down this precious natural resource.
For its part, the business roundtable, which will take place on November 2 at Parque Kennedy in mirafloreswill bring together producers and buyers from various original business lines such as biobusiness, infusions and oils, fish and meat, ecotourism, jewelery and more.
