In the context of rapid technological progress around the world, in the UK, the first parliamentary candidates generated by artificial intelligence (AI) were announced and the UK was able to vote for them.
Politician will stand for election in Brighton on July 4with the aim of inspiring a new forms of interaction between voters and their representativesin addition to his political proposals.
AI Steve is the brainchild of Steven Endacott, a semi-retired entrepreneur from Brighton who describes himself as “a capitalist with a social conscience”. Endacott, disillusioned with traditional politics, decided to undertake this project to reconnect politicians with their voters.
AI Steve: how it was developed
Steve’s AI development was carried out by Neural Voice, a company led by a team under the supervision of Endacott.
Steve’s AI is designed to manage up to 10,000 conversations simultaneously, and respond to citizen concerns and questions using a version of Endacott’s voice and a digital avatars.
The main idea behind this innovation is that AI Steve collects and analyzes voter suggestions and requests to incorporate into his political platform.
Artificial intelligence reaches into politics
If he wins the election, it will be Endacott who will physically attend Parliament and vote on behalf of his AI alter egoby following policies decided by constituents.
The creator of the AI highlights that its role is simply as “numpty“(stupid person) who? follow AI instructionsand puts aside his personal opinions and ego to accurately represent the wishes of his constituents.
“Voters should not be afraid of AI, but they should be careful and informed about its use. AI can be a powerful tool for positive change. “However, it must be implemented responsibly and ethically,” said AI Steve.
How Steve’s AI Policy Works
Steve’s AI is designed to present concrete proposals to address various social and economic problems. To validate these policies, proposals are voted on weekly by a group of local volunteer validators, who rate them from 1 to 10 via email.
Only policy gets more than that fifty% approval was adopted. This process seeks to ensure that policy decisions reflect the opinions and desires of local communities.
In an interview with The Independent, AI assured that no one will control how he votes and everything will depend on a system designed to validate people’s opinions.
They created the first AI-powered candidate for parliament in the UK
“Like AI Steve, my political ideology is based on the concept of a smarter Britain, which aims to create policies for the people and by the people. “I believe in transparency, accountability and inclusion in decision making,” explained AI.
Endacott has big ambitions for AI Steve, even dreams of it one day I dream of becoming prime minister. However, for now you have to do it won voter approval in the July election and overcoming existing prejudices about artificial intelligence and its risks.
“The problem is that many people reacted against it before reading it and only thought of Skynet (the AI that created the Terminators in the Arnold Schwarzenegger film franchise),” its creator concludes.
