In this regard, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg is presenting a new function that allows parents, guardians and minors to have better control over the time spent through social platform applications.

Meta brings parental control tools to Messenger, new functionality to allow minors to manage their own time on Facebook and Instagram, and much more.

Parental monitoring tool in Messenger

Messenger now has, although initially limited to the US, UK, and Canada territories, parental control tools and resources that can be used to get a set of metrics about a minor’s use of Messenger, from the time they spend to the configuration they have , although they will not have access to message content shared by minors in the conversation.

For now, they will be aware of the time they spend in the app, a constantly updated contact list, privacy and security settings, in addition to receiving notifications about complaints made by minors, and knowing who can contact them and access their stories. .

This is just the start since Meta is planning to bring more tools in the next year.

New privacy feature in Instagram messaging

To prevent unwanted interactions in Instagram’s direct messaging feature, adding to the existing features, Meta is currently testing a new feature to limit interactions from people you don’t follow.

This includes sending invitations to obtain permission to connect and these invitations will be limited to text messages, thereby avoiding receiving other types of unwanted content.

Minors can also control the usage time

Meta also wants to provide more control functions to the minors themselves. For existing options, Meta will send a notification to minors when they have spent 20 minutes on Facebook, inviting them to take a break and setting a daily time limit.

On Instagram they are looking for a way to get users to close the app if they see a Reels video at night. In addition, the silent mode on Instagram that was launched earlier this year will become available globally in the next few weeks.

And finally, Meta added new parental control features, including notifications when kids block someone, how many friends they have with the same account they follow, and more control options for parental control notifications on Instagram.

As expected from Meta they will continue to work in this area with the help of parents and experts to form new functions and improve existing ones.
