MADRID, November 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Thousands of people have supported Saturday’s demonstrations demanding early elections and protests against rising costs of living.
Unions and social organizations united in the People’s Assembly coordinator have called for a “Great Britain destroyed” march that has covered the distance between Victoria Pier and Trafalgar Square in the rain, during which several speakers have intervened, such as the secretary general of Trade Union of Rail and Sea. Transport (RMT), Mick Lynch, reports agency The Press Association.
Organizers defended calls for immediate elections, action against low wages and the repeal of laws they see as directed against unions.
One participant, Adam Robinson, has assured that people “will keep screaming” until the Government listens and compares these protests to the revolt against the single tax imposed by Margaret Thatcher’s government in 1990.
“I started to feel a pinch and I know a lot of people feel that way too,” said Robinson, a 51-year-old high school teacher in Maidstone, Kent.
“This government is a total disaster. It is not good for what it has to do and it is damaging to our country. I think it is important for us to stand together so that our voices are heard and say that we are not going to put up with this,” he argued. .
From the stage, Lynch had promised to strike “over and over again” until a “fair deal” was reached for the railroad workers.
Former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn also participated, having assured that the government “must ultimately listen” to demands for raises and labor rights defenses.
“People are very determined. They will not condone discrimination against persons with disabilities. They will not see an increase in the impoverishment of our society,” he stressed.
