The motive? Potential breach of UK data protection laws by TikTok by failing to protect children’s privacy when using the video-sharing platform.
The Information Commission’s office issued TikTok with legal documents before a possible fine, as well as two investigations.
It notes that in the first investigation, TikTok may have processed the data of children under the age of 13, without proper parental consent.
