TikTok is under international scrutiny due to suspicions about its behavior
The United States accuses the app of sending data to the Chinese government
China’s well-known video-sharing social media platform TikTok has notified users that some of its workers in China have access to account details in the UK and the European Union. The social media giant stated that the “privacy policy” is “based on a demonstrated need to do its job.”
The platform has come under scrutiny from authorities around the world, including the UK and US over concerns that the data could be provided to the Chinese government. Earlier this week, a US official calls for the app to be banned in the US.
Elaine Fox, the platform’s director of privacy for Europe, said in a statement Wednesday that the global team is helping to keep user experience in a “consistent, fun and safe” way. Currently all charges have been dismissed and the application has not been banned in any country.
