Former US President Donald Trump has criticized Democrats this Friday after the Ways and Means Committee of the United States House of Representatives published his tax returns during his tenure at the helm of the Administration.
“Democrats should never have done it. The Supreme Court should never have approved it and it would have led to terrible things for a lot of people. The great division of the United States will now be much worse,” he highlighted in a message on Truth Social, as reported by The Hill.
“The tax return shows once again how proud I am of succeeding and how I can use depreciation and other tax deductions as an incentive to create thousands of jobs and amazing structures and companies,” he added.
Thousands of pages of documents from the former president’s personal and business tax returns, covering the 2015-2020 tax year, have been obtained by the committee after a lengthy court battle with Trump’s legal team, the CNN network reported.
According to documents released so far, Trump paid $1 million in federal income taxes in 2018 and 2019, in stark contrast to the $700 he paid in 2017. He paid no taxes in 2020, according to a Joint Tax Committee report.
The pages confirm information submitted by ‘The New York Times’ newspaper in 2020 that Trump has bank accounts in China — as well as in other foreign countries, such as the UK or Ireland — linked to his company Trump International Hotel Management.
Given the sheer volume of documents, it will take time to dismantle all the information, but extraordinary disclosures are not expected, although they could provide additional insight into key areas of interest regarding Trump’s business affairs and professional associations.
