It’s unclear whether the project will go ahead or whether the sale will affect a group of usernames or all of them.

However, in a tweet dated December 9, 2022, Elon Musk has mentioned that the company “will begin clearing the namespaces of 1.5 billion accounts very soon.”

User data and vulnerabilities

On the other hand, Twitter Inc. said that “there is no evidence that the data that has been sold recently was obtained by exploiting a vulnerability in Twitter’s systems.”

The conclusion was drawn after a “deep investigation” into reports in the media that information on hundreds of millions of Twitter users was being sold online.

The social media company explained that the data reported by the media “is likely to be aggregated data that is already publicly available online through various sources.”
