Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister, Micheál Martin, and Justice Minister, Helen McEntee, will arrive in London today to attend an intergovernmental conference where they will discuss, among various topics, recent migration crisis in the country.

It was recently revealed that 80% of asylum seekers come to the Republic of Ireland across the open border with Northern Ireland.

This influx of people is believed to be linked to the UK’s immigration policy, known as ‘Rwanda’s plan‘, where asylum seekers who are not granted asylum in the UK must be transported to Rwanda. So to avoid it, they fled to Ireland.

Criticism of the Government for its “inhumane” treatment of refugees

“Every country has the right to have its own immigration policy. But I will not allow anyone else’s immigration policies affect our integritysaid Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris.

“And this country will absolutely not provide it an escape from the challenges of immigration from the other. “That’s very clear,” the prime minister added.

Last week, at least six people were arrested when violent clashes occurred during protests in County Wicklow, Ireland.

Demonstrators protested against proposed accommodation for refugees, some of whom were forced to camp outside the office responsible for processing their asylum applications due to a lack of accommodation. The Irish government has been accused treating them in an inhumane and degrading manner.
