MADRID, June 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss this Thursday gave the “most sincere” support to Russian opponent Alexei Navalni the “most sincere” support from the British Government after his sudden shift from prison.
“We support Navalni with all our hearts and we are very concerned about the information about his situation. We ask Russia to release him as soon as possible,” he stressed in a speech before Parliament compiled by the newspaper ‘The Guardian’.
His words came after Russian authorities confirmed that a prominent opponent had been transferred to a high-security prison in the Vladimir region, on the outskirts of the capital, Moscow, after his close circle denounced that he was missing.
On Tuesday, his spokesman, Kira Yarmysh, denounced that the whereabouts of the opponent were unknown after being transferred from the prison where he is serving an eleven-year prison sentence.
“Navalni has been transferred from penal colony number 2,” he said, before adding that “neither his lawyer nor his relatives were notified of this transfer.” Yarmysh noted, however, that there were “rumors” about his transfer to IK-6 in Melekhovo.
Navalni has been in detention since he returned to Moscow in January 2021, having recovered in Berlin from a serious poisoning suffered months earlier. Later, the Judge ruled that he should go to jail to serve a two and a half year sentence for fraud issued in 2014.
