Support for Argentina for Malvinas

In addition, during the meeting, many statements were made in support of Argentina’s rights by countries in the region, including interventions on behalf of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and Member States and Associated States of MERCOSUR. , spoken by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Uruguay, respectively; while other countries in the region speak in their national capacity.

The session, which took place at the UN headquarters in New York, received support from the G77 countries and China, through Cuba, which holds the presidency of the group, as well as the countries of the Zone of Peace and Cooperation. Atlantic with intervention spoken by Brazil.

In his intervention before the Committee, Foreign Minister Cafiero reaffirmed Argentina’s sovereign rights over the Malvinas, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime space and demanded that Britain comply with its international obligations to continue negotiations on sovereignty.

In this regard, he stressed that for the Argentine Government the Malvinas Islands are the past, present and future, and reiterated its determination to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the dispute in accordance with relevant General Assembly resolutions.
