– The deployment of Russian military forces and weapons at the site of a nuclear power plant is unacceptable, said a statement from 42 countries.
– We call on Russia to immediately withdraw its military forces and other unauthorized personnel from the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and its surroundings, and from all over Ukraine, so that Ukrainian operators and authorities can continue their sovereign responsibilities within Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders , it continues .
The lawsuits were made on behalf of the European Union, as well as the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and a number of other countries.
In the statement, the countries also indicated that compliance with the requirements would allow the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to verify and ensure that Ukraine complies with safety requirements at the facility.
The Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is the largest in Europe. It is located near the town of Enerhodar in Zaporizhzhya District and has been occupied by Russian troops since March. In recent weeks, there have been artillery strikes at the facility, most recently on Sunday. Both sides blamed each other for Sunday’s attack on Enerhodar, and both sides claimed that one civilian was killed in an artillery strike.
