He should never have done that

Last week, Phil Paxson, 47, was on his way home after celebrating his daughter’s ninth birthday in Hickory, a city in North Carolina in the US.

– It was a dark and rainy night. He followed the GPS which led him to the concrete road.

That’s what Paxson’s mother-in-law, Linda McPhee Koenig, wrote in a Facebook post on October 4.

No roadblocks and warning signs

A concrete walkway led Paxson to a bridge that was destroyed in 2013. The bridge, which was destroyed nine years ago, was never repaired.

The man was later found dead in his car, wrote Huffington Post.

– The bridge had no roadblocks and warning signs, and it took his life, wrote his mother-in-law.

The city’s road service said roadblocks had been put up to warn drivers of damaged bridges, but they must have been removed.

The 47-year-old man is survived by a wife and two children.

– Mourn

Global News wrote that his car, a Jeep Gladiator, was found overturned and partially submerged in water under a collapsed bridge the next day.

Paxson’s wife said she and their two daughters left the birthday party early in the evening, while Paxson stayed behind to help clean up.

– She will be sorely missed by her family and friends, wrote her mother-in-law.

– We mourn his death, he concluded.
