British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Tuesday that early indications were that the omicron variant of the coronavirus was “more contagious” than delta, according to his office.
During his cabinet meeting, Johnson said it was “too early to draw conclusions about the characteristics of the omicron.”
On the other hand, the prime minister’s office assured that there was no discussion among Johnson’s team about whether the government should introduce additional measures over the winter within the framework of plan B.
As of Monday, England confirmed 336 cases of omicron, including 261 in England, 71 in Scotland and four in Wales.
Meanwhile, Britain’s Health Minister, Sajid Javid, said that the omicron variant was starting to spread in more than one region of the country, including “cases not linked to international travel.”
“We can conclude that there are communities spread over more than one area of the UK,” Javid added.
